MGO stands for methylglyoxal, an organic compound in Manuka honey responsible for its antibacterial activity. It is an indicator of the concentration of methylglyoxal (MGO Rating). The higher the level, the more potent the honey.

NPA is another rating system for Manuka honey. It refers to the non-peroxide activity, which is the additional antibacterial activity found in Manuka honey.
